Boy Scout Troop 334 has an illustrious history of achievement and service to Cascade, and has been sponsored by Cascade Christian Church since 1952. Troop 334 is a scout-led troop, which means the boys lead the troop. As this website evolves and content is added, the navigation will also become more sophisticated. Currently, we're looking for scouts who want to work on computers merit badge and use the construction of this website as part of completion of their merit badge requirements.
The following leadership positions are filled by election each fall. A Scout cannot hold the same position for two terms in a row or hold two positions at the same time. Some positions, at the discretion of the Scoutmaster, have been filled by two or more Scouts.
Senior Patrol Leader - Rank: First Class and above
The Senior Patrol Leader is in charge of troop meetings. He chairs meetings of the patrol leaders and attends the adult Planning Meetings. In short the SPL job is to see that the troop runs in an orderly and timely manor.
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader - Rank: First Class and above
The Assistant Patrol Leader serves as assistant to the Senior Patrol Leader and takes the place of the SPL when he is absent. Among his specific responsibilities are training and direction for all other Troop positions.
Patrol Leader - Rank: Any rank
The Patrol Leader is elected by the members of his patrol. He takes responsibility for the Patrol's activities and represents the Patrol at the Patrol Leaders Council
Assistant Patrol Leader - Rank: Any rank
The Assistant Patrol Leader is elected by the members of his patrol. He takes responsibility for the Patrol's activities and represents the Patrol at the Patrol Leaders Council when the Patrol Leader is absent
Scribe - Rank: Any rank
The Scribe is the Troop Secretary. He attends Troop meetings to record attendance, Scout points and other paperwork that may be needed.
Troop Guide - Rank: First Class and above
The Troop Guide is both a Leader and mentor to the members of a new Scout Patrol. He helps direct and guide the Patrol Leader of a new Patrol.
Historian - Rank: Any rank
The Historian collects and preserves Troop photographs, news stories, trophies, flags, scrapbooks, awards and other memorabilia. He might also collect and organize information about former Scouts and leaders and make all material available for Troop activities.
Instructor - Rank: Star and above
The Instructor is an older Troop member proficient both a Scouting skill and in the ability to teach that skill to others. First Aid, camping, backpacking... the subjects can encompass any of the areas that Scouts will want to master, especially those required for outdoor activities and rank advancement. The Troop may have more than one Instructor.
Treasurer - Rank: Any rank
The Treasurer is responsible for collecting all dues and fees for Scout activities such as trips, campouts, food... he will work closely with the Adult Troop Treasurer. He will prepare a budget for the above events and give an account report when scheduled at Troop meetings.
Librarian - Rank: Any rank
The Librarian oversees the care and use of Troop books, pamphlets, magazines, audiovisuals and merit badge counselor lists. He checks out all material to Scouts and Leaders and maintains records to ensure that everything is returned.
Quartermaster - Rank: Any rank
The Quartermaster is the supply and equipment boss. He keeps a current inventory of Troop equipment and sees that it is in good condition. He works with Patrols to check in and out all equipment and reports any equipment that needs repair or replacement.
Medic - Rank: any rank but must have First Aid Merit Badge
The Medic will be responsible for all medical supplies for the Troop. He must maintain the Troop medical kit and keep a log of all Scouts requesting items such as Band-Aids, aspirins, insect repellent, sterile pads... He is not responsible for medical attention.
Chaplain Aide - Rank: Any rank
The Chaplain Aide assists the Troop Chaplain in religious services for the Troop. He sees that the religious holidays are considered during program planning and promotes the religious emblems program.
Order of the Arrow Representative - Rank: First Class and above & OA Member
The Order of the Arrow serves as the communication link between the Troop and the local Order of the Arrow Chapter. By enhancing the image of the Order as a service arm to the troop, he promotes the OA in the Troop while encouraging year-round camping in the Troop and participation of older Scouts in high-adventure programs.
Den Chief - Rank: Any rank - First Class preferred
The Den Chief works with a den of Cub Scouts and with their adult den leader. He assists with den meetings, encourages Cub Scout advancement and serves as a role model for younger boys.
WEBELOS Den Chief - Rank: any rank
The WEBELOS Den Chief meets each week with a WEBELOS den and helps their adult leader guide WEBELOS Scouts in their program. He can plan and assist with den meetings and field activities and encourage WEBELOS Scouts to progress into the Scout Troop.
Junior Assistant Scoutmaster - Rank: 16 years and above
A Scout that is 16 years of age who has shown outstanding leadership skills may be appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader, with the consent of the Scoutmaster, to serve as Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. These young men follow the guidance of the Scoutmaster in providing support and supervision to other boy leaders in the troop.
In the case of an election tie the Adult Leaders will cast votes in private to decide the winner.
